Bummer, I have an Atlas 12" X 40" metal lathe with the old style tool post. This tool post would have been great addition for this lathe. Oh well, I've been able to work with it like it is, guess I will continue to use it, good old machine.

JK...This toolpost would have been too small for a 12" swing lathe. You need an AXA size toolpost, also called a 100 size by some manufacturers. Do an ebay search for AXA toolpost and you will find the made in China sets for about $100 to $150. Great buys. If you want the US brands, like Aloris, they are about $500 for the set. I've used both and didn't notice enough of a difference to warrant the substantially higher cost.

If you do buy a set, ask your seller to sell you some extra turning/facing holders. You can never have too many of them. They should be about $15 each from the ebay guys.

Although this tool post may have been adapted to your lathe, in actuality, it is way to small. The one you need is an A size or you can even go to a B for your lathe. You can find them brand new on e-bay for as little as 89.00 for the set.

John,
Good thing it sold before you got to it. Gotta admitt though, that would have been pretty funny seeing the look on you face when you opened the box.

Thanks guys, I thought this was an AXA size quick change tool post. I have two wedge sets on a 12" X 37" Central Machinery lathe and a 12" X 37" Smithy lathe and love them. I also have 15 tool holders. Yes, you are all right about having extra tool holders for different jobs. Looks like I will invest in another import knock off Aloris wedge set and shell out the $150.

You guys deserve rep points, thanks
John
