Quick Poll - How Do You Practice?

I usually will do some of Scott Lee's drills for a few minutes and then play 14.1. I wish I had time to play in a league or go out and play more, but sadly, time is tight when you have a full time job, three kids, and 110 rounds of golf in a year.

Practice???????

I voted an practice is where its at. To improve I think everyone need to practice. Some just roll the balls around, others use more structured practice sessions including drills. If nothing other than to warm up before a set it always helps to know table speed. Pool is like golf imho your game is a constant work in progress.

I voted. :)

I'm a little embarassed to admit this but my pool table has been pretty much buried for the last few years as I simply did not have time to play while working and owning a business. But the business was sold early this year and I just got around to cleaning the table off again. I kept thinking about how much I had wanted a table in my home for SO LONG and what a waste it was not to be using it. It needs new cloth but still plays okay, and I had a great time practicing all by myself for 4-5 hours yesterday. I can't wait to get home tonight and play some more.

I would actually prefer to play tournaments and gamble a little to tune up my game, but this is the way that's most practical.

BTW love your blog, Melinda. :)

My husband and I do drills.

We practice our stroke by shooting the cue ball at the middle diamond and bringing it straight back, and also shooting an object ball straight in on the long rail. We do those 10 times each.

Then we freeze 6 balls to the rail and cut them from a tight angle into the corner - I'm becoming very good at that. 6 out of 6 on my last drill. We each do that twice.

Then we line up 8 balls across the table and shoot each one straight in from the first diamond to practice long, straight in shots. We each do that twice.

By then we're itching to break a rack and PLAY!

I try to practice alone because I can get more done that way. I usually spread 9 balls on the table and run them consecutively, re-setting up any shot that I miss and shoot it until I am comfortable with the shot.

If I luck a ball in, I don't let myself know that I got lucky. :D
