I just noticed that Rachel Abbink is playing in the BCA open, she must have gotten there through a qualifier. I look for a strong finish from the best female roadplayer in the states. Do you think she stands a chance in the top 5?

First, Abbink won her first match very easily. Still, her win over 47th ranked Sue Mello doesn't tell us much about her prospects. Her next opponent will be 11th ranked Laura Smith, and represents a fairly stiff test. A win would likely lead to a match against Asain superstar Shin Mei Liu.

I'm familiar with Abbink's game, though it's close to a year since I last saw her play. Based on what I've seen, I think fifth is not a realistic possibility in the BCA Open. I'd be surprised if she finished higher than 17th, but admit that it's possible.

The title of "best road player" is arguable, but if it's accurate, it more a testament to the fact that women tend not to go on the road than to the fact that she should be counted among the women's games best.

If she's one of the best, let her prove it in the BCA Open. I'm betting against her.

Still, if you're a fan, friend or relative of hers, I wish her good luck on your behalf.

I've met Rachel and she plays pretty sporty. I mostly seen her play bar tables so I don't know where she'll finish. I do wish her luck though. Sam
