is it nessary to use a stainless collar when using a radial pin ?
or is phenolic ok .
and i am just asking about the shaft only not the but.
thinking about converting 1 from a 5/16 to radial just to see how it feels.
do you also just soak the tread in the shaft with super glue ?

Actually any collar will suffice. Havent seen many shafts with the SS. Had a viking once had one. Only thing i would suggest to use on the threads in the shaft is pariffin wax {Gulf Wax} to seal and retard moisture from getting into the wood or bees wax.
