Just A Quick Question For My Fellow Az'ers Out There. All My Life I Have Played With A Cue That Had A Piloted Joint. In My Opinion A Shaft With A Metal Insert Screws On Nice And Tight For A Secure Connection And Provides Consistent Playability. Now I Have Recently Gave In To A Few Friends And Purchased A Cue With A Radial Pin. I Have Noticed Already That I Find My Myself Checking The Connection Because The Shaft Comes Comes A Little Loose From The Pin Time To Time. As A Player Is There Anything I Can Do To Stop This? An Old Timer In My Local Pool Hall Told Me To Put Vaseline On The Pin Because That Will Cause The Wood To Swell And Make The Shaft Fit Tighter. Any Info Would Be Appreciated.

I just use a cue-tip and wet it. Then I use it to quickly wipe the inside of the shaft. Just a quick swipe would do. After that let it dry and in a few hours the wood absorbs it and it will tighten up. Careful not to add to much water though. Just a quick swipe will do.
 
Thats sounds kinda strange. I've got a cue with a radial pin and it never works itself loose. Even after a good 5 hours play its still as tight as when i put it together.
 
No probs with mine!

I would think twice before I moistened any wood with water. Ask the builder what he might suggest.

You might want to post the same question in "Ask The Cuemaker" section of the forum. Your problem is not unique as I have experienced similar issue.

My local cuemaker used to use radial pin but went back to 3/8x10 pins. He said he couldn't understand why it was happening (engineering perspective) but his own cue used to do same thing where he habitually had to check the tightness of the shaft.
