New to az and have seen alot of threads of cues with radial pins. For the most part does a low end radial pin cue and a higher end radial pin cue play the same? Asking because i have a radial pin lucasi which I like but, I'm looking into buying a new cue.
Thanks, Jeff

Really, for the most part ,the pin has little to do with the "hit" of the actual cue.... Of course this is my own opinion !!!!!!!!!!:D

If you like the cue you have, may I ask why you want to change?

I'll bet that Steve, like many pool players, is looking for that "magic wand" cue stick that will feel just perfect and never miss a ball!:D

The joint pin does give the cue a certain hit. But the ferrule, tip, shaft and joint collar material make a bigger difference. Then the forearm wood and wrap joint design and handle wood also play a major part as well as taper does. Since all these factors vary from one cue to another the simple answer is that a higher end cue with radial pin will most likely not play exactly like your current cue.

Thanks for all the info.

Steve, I'm looking fo a new one just to try out other cue makers. I've tried some higher end ts's and a herseck and liked them both. There just a little out of budget right now. Any suggestions on a good hitting sub 700$ cue?
Thanks, jeff

A Josey not-so-sneaky pete!!:D I just received my cue this weekend...Keith happened to have one available in his shop, and I guess timing is everything;) ...anyway, and it is my first experience with a radial pin. This cue is THE closest thing to feeling like a one piece I have ever shot with! :D Very stiff and solid. I am truly pleasantly surprised. Now I get the 'buzz' about radial pins.

... or he is in the beginning stages of my disease, the irresistable urge to buy cues, all kinds of different cues. :D Not because they play appreciably better, for the same reason somebody else buys... well whatever they buy.

The pin itself has little to nothing do with how a cue plays, IMO. That is, having the same type of pin doesn't guarantee that one stick will play anywhere the same as another stick with that style of pin.

Fred, do you really mean the pin has little or no effect, or that, though the pin does make a difference, there is such a multitude of other factors that holding the pin consistent doesn't mean the hit will be the same between 2 cues?

Maybe I mean both, but I think the pin has little effect. Or more precisely in the context of the question, the pin style.

I think if you examine just the pin and pin only by taking three identical flat-faced cues, put a radial setup in one and a 3/8ths-10 in the other, and 3/8ths-11 in the last, and tighten them up, nobody would be able to tell the difference in any meaningful subjective or objective description/measurement.

Agian thanks for all the info.

Cats, you could be right about the diease. I know a few others with it and I think it's contagious.

Rat, I really like the look of the downey's. Fair prices as far as I can tell. Thanks for the link.

For now I'm going tot keep looking and learning.
Thanks, Jeff
