I have started playing in a handicapped 9 ball tournament and the people in charge ranked
me as a 5. I have been playing pool on
and off for years but started to get serious
around December. My skill level, my playing level
and my mental level are not yet in synch (nerves, mental errors, etc).
Yesterday I played against 2 nines and an 8
and lost to the nines but gave them a scare
and beat the eight.
They all complained that I am under rated
and that if I get it together I will be robbing
the tourney if I stay at 5. Who's responsibility
is it to change my ranking? Am I suppose to
go to the manager and up my rating or should
I just leave it alone until they change it.
I have never before played in one of these
things and am really unfamiliar with protocol.

Well, how many times have you played in this tournament so far? And what have your results been in that number of times you've played?

I've found that some TDs won't adjust your handicap unless you do *well* in the tournament, i.e. place in the money.

Ultimately it's the TD's decision whether to move you up - but if you truly feel you're under-ranked, talk to the TD and let him know what you think.

If you have a competent tournament director then he/she should be on top of the situation. Don’t sweat it as you may have caught the players on a bad streak or you may have been on a hot one. It all works out in the wash
