Rare John Davis full cue (plus story)

Her signing some could explain the wild variations. Yours is quite fancy for a Davis. Nice work on those rings. I think there is a maturity in his work that develops after that initial comeback year of 2007 judging by what I’ve seen. Seems as though the details are better executed. But I’m only going by my cue (early/ middle 2007) and the photos of the others I’ve seen. Steppo would have a better “on hand” opinion on that issue.

I’d love to know the total # made.

Thanks for showing yours. Another really nice Davis with some elevated ringwork.

As a follow-up on the signatures of Davis cues, I just spoke with John’s wife Barbara on the phone. I mentioned how different the signatures were, and asked if he had signed them all…

She laughed and said “I was with John for 27 years and got lots of cards from him. I was always thinking “who the heck signed these?”. I always told him he should just print his signature to make it easier. John was a lefty, and that’s just the way he was.”

So it seems there is our answer. John signed the cues, and even his wife couldn’t recognize his signature most of the time.
