I just picked up this cue and it seems to be very nice. It plays really nice, good balance and nice feel on the hit Anyone have any opinons or info other than what is on the schuler website? its signed by Ray Schuler, SLC. I noticed there were a lot of cues with a signature on them. I'm just curious if I should put it in the closet instead of using it as a player.

why would you put it in the closet? Isn't a collectible and it won't be. Original schulers perhaps, but that cue is still being built and isn't built by ray schuler.
 
schuler wasn't a good craftsman. so play with the schuler,,,,it's not for safekeeping.

Not debating your statement one way or the other.

But I believe SLC stands for Schuler Legacy Cue --i.e., I believe Ray signed this one from the grave.
 
LOL Thanks. I was just looking for some information on it. I guess I got what I wanted.
 
Schulers that were built while Ray was alive were generally signed "by Ray Schuler". Since his passing, the shop has continued to build cues under the "SLC" moniker meaning "Schuler Legacy Cues". They have a unique joint style and offer a wide variety of shafts and tapers including billiards shafts. I have an older plane-jane model that hits the balls nicely.
 
I'm definatly impressed by the way it plays. I think the wife has laid claim to it though. :)

Schuler cues were originally Ray's extension of the Rambo Cue. Rays favorite cue was a Rambo, which by the way was offered recently on eBay. Ray started building cues in the Mid-1970's, before that Ray worked as an Industrial Engineer. When Herman Rambo died in 1967, Ray began to take on more and more cue repair, IE, Tips, Ferrule, Refinishing and Restoration. Ray made the transition to full time cue maker in approximately two years, and with his Engineering back ground Ray developed the current joint used on all Schuler cues. Ray was an avid 3-Cushion Billiard players and he specialized in 3-Cushion Billiards cues. Many of the top players around the world swear by the Schuler cue for 3-Cushion Billiards, due to the stiff hit, and the different shaft tapers that are made for this and all other forms of billiards.

Another interesting fact is that Schuler was one of the first companies to standardize a joint diameter. All Schuler shafts are still inter-changeable and will fit any butt since the late 1970's.

Like other posters have said, since Rays death all cues made are marked S.L.C with a fake signature. Ray was another innovator, that experimented and developed many techniques related to pool and billiard cue design that are common place today.
