re: Old School overhead bead point keeper?

Those old black/white wooden bead point keepers hanging from the ceiling.
Has anyone used those beads for shaft rings or joint rings or any type of inlay?
I remember black wood and natural wood.
Were they by chance ebony or black dyed natural maple , you could push those around all night long and never signs of stress.
That was good wood ;)

I have no idea what wood they used although I would guess many were made of maple. I doubt many were made with Ebony as that is an expensive wood and those counters sold pretty cheap.

They are usually black painted wood, or a cheaper red wood like mahogany

Sounds right to me. Here is a picture of mine, came along with some circa 1920 artifacts. The 5 and 10 markers were definitely painted black, and the others look like they could be mahogany. Mine show some signs of stress, like the chip out of the 7th-from-left bead.
