re-tapering a butt? or turning it down?

i have a cue that I would like 1 or 1.5 mm smaller...

It has some inlay work in it... the joint is fine but was wondering if it can be turned down, i imagine it's quite a bit of work, as you'd have to remove the wrap and then turn it down on a lathe, then refinish it and put another wrap on.

Is this possible and is there anyone here that can recomend cuemaker that has done this before? And what type of costs are involved?

thx for the help,

That's a real touchy job, especially with inlays. May I suggest the Cue maker who made the cue.

i wouldnt. like like said touchy. the pockets for the inlays may not be deep enough. sadly there is no real way to tell until you cue. even the original maker may not want to do that.

if i were you id look for a new cue or maybe send it to scot sherbine at proficient billiards for a refinish. he does a great job. tell him take a little off. youd be suprised how much just hitting it with some 220 for a few seconds more would help

btw we measure the butt end in thousandths. so if your cue is .850 at th joint and 1.250 in the back. you want it like .825 and like 1.225

Hi Dave

Thxs,

In looking at the cue again, I think it might be easyier to start a new taper at the top of the wrap, then turn it down to about 1.20 then re-clear coat it and re-wrap it. That way we avoid the top inlays.

I might give Proficient a call... thxs again.
