Re-Tip Yourself or Send Out? Tip Recommendations?

Do a lot of you think the UltraSkin is a better tip? I did see David Schmelke offers it as an upgrade along with the Kamui.

I wonder if the cost goes up for changing the tip if you bring your own in? I'll need to call.
Yeah i never got on with the kamui, i didnt see how there worth that much. but the Ultraskin play better for me. I like black ones, very consistent tip.

Tips are fuuny things, its about personal preference. Its not so much about the most expensive tips. The best way to learn what you like, is to do it your self, or you end up, spending fortune. Literally, all you need, is a long flat metal file, glue and sand paper. And alot of practice, when i started, once the tip is on, i wapped the ferrule in paper, untill tight, then i taped it up. That way you can protect the ferrule. before you try your own cue, have a practice on, one of your spare ones first.

Yeah, but I can spend an extra hour at work instead of replacing my tip and make enough to have it done 3 times professionally. The video I watched really pointed out what's lacking when doing it yourself. I'm a general contractor by trade and do a lot of wood and metal work. I need good tools to make square cuts, I'd never try to do it by hand. I can imagine how your shots would be affected if you were a few degrees off on one side of the tip vs the other. If you didn't hold the cue in the same rotation every time, you're shots would all be off.

Plus, I'm the sort of guy who would end up buying a lathe after seeing that clip! One of the cheap lathes showed up on craigslist the other day:

If it wasn't for many here bashing that model lathe, it would be in my basement right now.

If your that way, fair enough, the biggest thing is just being really carefull, and making sure you get the tip and ferrule, as level / flat as possible. But i see what your saying!
