Real or Faux Lizard Wrap???

Hi guys,

I have sweaty palms, but only when I'm extremely nervous. I currently use a linen wrap, but I can't really tell if my palms get sweaty during games. I never carry a towel.

I have used a wrapless cue before, and I think I remember having to wipe my hands a bit more.

So the question is, would a lizard print leather wrap be alright for me, or should I go for a real lizard wrap? Also if there are pros and cons about these 2 kinds of wraps, I'd like to hear them too....particularly about how they wear over time. I have heard that the leather wrap will not absorb sweat very well, but I'm not sure about the real lizard wrap.

Of course, a linen wrap is my last resort.

thanks,
ray

When I golfed in Arizona I solved the sweaty hands thing by applying a little anit persperant to my hands. You could do the same with you stroking hand. This is not a joke, it really does work well.

Neither will absorb any sweat, but lizard print will last longer with virtually no wear. Real lizard starts to loose its luster after just a few months, and after a year or two of hard play all the scales become smooth.

-Roger (and you're keeping an apex predator alive somewhere in the world by using cowskin, if that matters to you at all)

No Wrap is best (IMO)

Any wrap will absorb dirt, sweat and chalk.
With no wrap - all you need is a wet & dry towel for your hands & cue butt.

I have the opposite problem - Way too dry - I have to use a "Tacky-Cloth" to get a good grip on my break cue.

Dear Ray,

The most absorbing and ideal wrap for you would be "Structured" calf leather. It's soft, abosorbes the sweat from your hands and lasts for at least 10 years...

Most of the cuemakers can put one on for you...

With my very best regards,

Tom Penrose

dont get a lizard wrap !!!!!!!!!!!!

i beg u *puts himself down on his knees"
Imagine all these cute little animals being killed just so it can sit on a cue so a pool player can brag?

just to help u make the choise;

just check this picture out, and ask yourself, do u want linen or lizard...

Have you thought about a cork wrap?

If there done correctly, they're fantastic as far as absorbcency goes.

Just a thought...

You may wish to consider a stack leather wrap. Depending on how it's put on, it will absorb sweat with no problem. One of my cues has one, and after the leather was applied the butt was spun and the leather was sanded down with coarse 40 grit sandpaper, then finer grades until it was smooth. Stain was applied and then wax, then rubbed down. After using the cue for a time, the wax dissipates, the sheen goes down, and the leather provides a nice grip and is absorptive as well.

My vote is also for the Stack Leather Wrap. It has a great feel & is very durable. Tony at TIGER PRODUCTS is a great guy & he will & can answer any of your questions. Adding a complimenting color is another PLUS.

I would stay away from the real Lizard skin, it is a thin skin... Good Luck

I agree with the cork wrap. They use cork for handles on fishing poles which get a little wetter than most cue wraps. I have one on a Woodworth cue that is the nutz...

I just had Paul Drexler install a cork wrap for me about a month ago, and it is by far the best wrap I have ever felt. It also has a nice, different, look to it.
