Who said golf is a game without gambling? I'm confused as to where this is coming from... I thought we were talking about why Nike doesn't sponsor pool? which, by the way, has nothing to do with gambling and much to do with the lack of athletics involved.Rift said:I'd just like to say I've seen less gambling on a poker table than in a round of golf. Bet on closest to the hole, money per stroke. Bet off the tee longest drive. "10-1 you can't hit that shot again". Who can chug a beer the fastest. "5 bucks says you can't clear that sandtrap with the golfcart"
Okay the last two are a joke. But people who think golf isgame without gambling are sadly mistaken.

You don't see top golf or tennis players gamble and have "money games" do you?
....
Oh, ok... my bad. I totally missed that post. I'm with you then. I definitely don't agree that gambling is the reason Nike isn't involved in pool. Every sport inspires gambling. I've been watching my dad bet on football since I was a little kid and I have participated in many NCAA Basketball pools. I know people that go so far as to gamble on baseball! (ugh... why? I can't figure that out... LOL) Anyway, let's be realistic here... people will use any excuse to gamble.Rift said:Sorry Lodini I should have quoted

I don't see Nike sponsoring a sport where you are sitting half the time, and walking slowly around a 9 foot area the other half. Add in the smoking drinking that go hand-in-hand with pool and a sports company would not touch pool with a 60" cue. Outside of the so-called "sin" products, I don't see a solid advertiser for pool. Look at one of the few that tried, Kevin T., he is barely one step away from a wild-west tonic salesman. Who else did pool have recenty.. well, there are the billiard product makers.. duh. Then there is Camel, we have Guiness overseas, I think some whisky company had a big sponsorship a while back. I don't think any respectable company put their money in pool since the 60s, even then it was rare.

Rift said:I don't understand that line of thought. NASCAR sponsered by beer used to have cigs as well and it's a sport that is brought to bear by drinking rednecks and yet still has all the sponsership it needs.
[Disclaimer]
Should add to this I like racing although I'm not much a drinker, and my opinion does not reflect all fans of NASCAR just pointing out the stereotype.
