about how I developed a new awareness of what I think is
an approach to seeing the shot better, I just imagine the shot going im
like it is on a little path and then I bend over and try to make my cue ball start it down the road

For one thing it relieves me of the anxiety of wondering what to do or think about a bunch of details.I kinda feel like I watch every shot go about 3 inches,in my mind every shot is a short easy shot

now I have no idea whetjer this is what anyone else does or not,in fact no one responded that they did.

Billy Stroud responded to my question about how I was holding the cue with my back hand,I had discovered I was missing long shots that looked easy ,only a foot from the cueball but 7 or 8 feet from the hole.I started holding the cue a little more firm in the back hand

Billy told me to play one handed pool for a while, notice how I held the cue and how i stood, well my stance was more comfortable, more perpendicular to my line and my feet were more close to each other and of course more upright

The theory being that the one handed grip was my natural grip,my stance was also and all I had to do was bend over and shoot 2 handed,

I had played one handed pool, but I was and am no good at it,you don't need to be to try this exercise

whether all this is right or not for anybody,I don't know but by articulating these few simple things in my mind.It all came together and I immediately felt natural ,relaxed
and started shooting better right away

Now I have played pool all my life, but I never was any good at it,spot shots were very difficult for me,long shots between the cue ball and object ball were hard and I never could draw the ball at great distances, say 5 feet

But with these simple thoughts, with no drills or long practicing,I got way better almost over night at pocketing balls and moving Judy

These adjustments are so natural, simple and easy that I wrote this so some of you guts might try them to see if it helps you, I am not a good player ,i need 8 to 4 to play most hustlers, Dick Lane gave me the 5 thru 9 and n the break and beat me.I never practiced it destroyed my confidence,

I have trouble running 1 rack of straight pool, but at age 75 ,I am now shooting in long shots straight in the hole consistently better,at times I wonder if I am dreaming and fear I will start missing and playing timidly again

My runs were 3-6 ...took stroke lessons (Scott Lee)...they jumped 6-15 and sometimes into the next rack. Hey...you do not have to run the rack...8 is the magic number.:D

Pre Vis

This came up in another thread.... I call it pre-visualisation.. 'Pre-Vis' for short.
Before getting down, you 'see' the shot in your mind, ball going in, position, etc..
...you're rehearsing it in your mind. When you get down and take your shot,
your muscle memory has already made the shot, so you're in effect repeating
what you already did. I think the Psycho-Cybernetics book talks about this..

Works pretty well for me.. I will say you have to be in a receptive, confident
frame of mind.

Creative visualization.

Pool is a game best played without too much deliberate effort. That effort slows your body. It is all about execution of what you know.
