What do the red squares mean as far as posting is concerned.

If you are referring to the sort-of-red box at the bottom left of each post, it relates to reporting a post to the moderators for "spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts."

One green will counter many reds.
You will notice that you see very few posters with actual red under their name. It takes multiple red reps to turn some red, and one green from someone with reasonably high rep points will change them back.
Don't sweat it. They system is broken, and its just another way to comment.

The system is completely useless, and if you actually try to use the red rep for a productive purpose, the person receiving will still come to the forum and complain about it anyhow, ignoring the reason for the red rep, and generally find themselves banned for the type of behavior that warranted the red rep in the first place.
What's funny is the square who squared me got his feelings hurt from a thread discussing people who take advantage of the rules. Then he took advantage of the posting rules.
