Refinish a CF shaft

Good call. I have a respirator, but I would have to check if the filter is rated for it or not.

I ordered a couple CF blanks to try this out on just in case I ruin them.
I don't know if I would "sand" the shafts. I would probably just hit them with a good alcohol wipe, and then Ghost/Gorst shaft slicker. Seems to work fine with mine.
Good luck. I'm interested in your outcomes.

You might try a VERY light session with something like this, if you have a cheap blank that you don't care to risk.

Hi folks,

I've got a Predator Revo that's basically worn smooth. I can put a ceramic coating on it and it's not too bad, but I was considering sending it back to Predator for their Recharge service. Basically, the shaft looks like the before in the video.

Alternatively, I have access to large enough lathes to do it myself and I might do that as it's a backup shaft anyway. Can anyone confirm or speculate what they do to resurface the shaft? It looks like they sand it tip to joint, but I'm not sure.

Past that, I have a first gen Cuetec Propel where the shaft was smooth from the factory. Would a similar sanding process help here, or should I leave it alone?

Any ideas welcome, thank you!
If you get too aggressive with the surface, the problem I see is potentially compromising the wall thickness of the shaft. Many of these CF shafts are ~1mm wall thickness to begin with...give or take.

compromising the wall thickness is not an issue, since when you sand the shaft, you will sand less than a single layer of the underlying carbon fiber fabric. If you were to sand more than a single layer, it would visibly show, and the shaft would be worthless. We're talking about just roughening up the top surface, it's not even really sanding. More like touching up. It changes the diameter of the shaft less than 0.01 mm. To structurally weaken the shaft, you'd need to sand through multiple layers of the fabric. In practice, for me, this is 2 quick and light passes with sandpaper whilst the shaft is spun up on the lathe. Nothing more.
