Refinish (or replace?) Gold Crown III trim.

I just bought a 9' GC III - I got a good deal on it but it has the brass plated trim instead of the nickel colored trim. I really would rather have the nickel trim but the deal was too good to pass up.

So my first question is if you can somehow strip the brass plated trim, sand it down and then clear coat it? What kind of metal is the trim made out of?

My second question is how hard is it to remove the trim from the table? Can you take off the pocket castings (the trim that goes around the pockets) without taking the rails off the table? Can you take off the trim from the rails and easily re-attach it?

Anyone have any links or anything that could help me out? I've looked and searched and really haven't come up with much!

Thanks,
Zach

You have to take the rails completely off to acces the pocket casting and the trim.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how hard it is to remove/reinstall the trim that runs along the rails?

I would just take the parts off and take them to someone doing metal plating. I did my pocket irons on my antique Brunswick in nickel and for less than a 100 bucks I don't regret it as they look great! Good luck with your project...:shocked2:

I was told by Brunswick that the metal trim on GC III are interchangeable with those on I & IIs. Also Classic Billiards sells new nickle finished metal trim for GC III, but they are not cheap, about $400. Good Luck!

Yeah I saw that site that sells the trim - after I get it all though it would be a lot of cash.. $495 for the corner castings, $245 for the legs, $110 for the ball box, and I can't find the rail trim on the site.

Thanks for the info on the Is and IIs, if they are interchangable maybe I can find some cheap.
