refinish question

I posted this in the main forum, but decided that i might get some more usefull info here.

i have a very nice 4pt southwest style cue made by Eddie Faris.

The cue has a black linen wrap on it now.

I have always prefered a wrapless cue and I'm thinking about getting it refinished muecci style with the finish covering the wrap.

I have two questions. Would doing this hurt the resale value of my cue in any way? And, who would be a good pick to refinish it that way?

Also, what kind of finish would be best to achieve this?

thanks.

I would recommend looking into a nice leather wrap as an alternative. The clearing over the wrap can be done, but due to the linen it will always be wavy looking.
I have had several customers that did not like their linen wrapped cues, and once they tried a leather wrap, it gave them the feel of wrapless and actually increased the value of the cue a bit.
Just an option I thought you may like. I know RD Customs is in Texas and does a very nice leather wrap. Might be an option for you.

I have a leather wrap on my schon & like it much better than linen, but to me wrapless is the best.

Do you think there would be any way around the wavy-ness? And if i do, is it going to hurt the value?

Not really any way to stop the waviness. The linen is going to suck in the clear over time. So it may look really sharp when you get it back, but a short time later , the linen will suck it in and the waviness is there.
Another option would be to have someone remove the handle and install the wood of your choice then reassemble. Not an easy task, or cheap one, but is an option. Would really depend on the maker of the value issue.
Hope this helps...........

I prefer wrapless cues as well. I was advised to try stacked leather so I had Ryan at Muellers do a stacked leather wrap for me and the feel is very much like a wrapless cue... especially with cue wax on it.

To answer your questions;

Yes it is possible.

I do not have any problems with the clear coat soaking, moving, chipping, waving, or cracking.

Yes, it will hurt the resale.

I can do it for $130
