Refinishing a cue and now the linen wrap seems deeper, help

Hello,

This is my first post ever in here I believe.

I recently got back into cue repair and hopefully soon cue building.

Anyway I refinished an old adams cue that was pretty beat up using CA which I'm comfortable using.

Finish is perfect, But now the wrap groove is deeper because of the extra buildup of finish. Almost twice as hi as the linen wrap itself.

I could continue to sand more finish off, but not my ideal choice. Thoughts?

I've seen odd "buildup" process with bondo (😬), laying a coat of CA to build up, use a layer(s) paper with wood glue then sand smooth, I even seen someone wrap very thin pieces of veneer?? Odd. Another person said just to wrap it twice? (Waste of linen in my opinion).

I like the thought of wood glue either by itself and let the cue slowly rotate to level a good buildup and it'd be more even and easier to prep.

Or wrapping with precision cut pieces of white paper and thin wood glue like a paper mache in a couple layers.

Options? Advice? Please, any would be very helpful. Links to videos, etc.

Oh one other question, toothpicking the linen or underwrapping the ends? Thoughts?

Thank you to whomever answers amd helps.

God bless

Double wrapping actually works fine. Linen is cheap, so I don't see the problem.
When refinishing I take four measurements if it's a wrapped cue. At the joint collar, above the wrap, below the wrap and at the buttcap, that way I can make sure my finish is within a thou or so of the original finish.
In your case I would start over, and please use a full face mask, gloves and work in a well ventilated room, you only have one set of lungs..

I do wear all the safety gear . I've had lung issues already from other issues, so I'm not wanting to breathe any crud in. I wear a full mold respirator system.

I'll look at it again and consider taking more of the finish off. I did build it up pretty thick.

Thank you for responding and advising.

It is low enough groove that would be perfect fit a stack wrap. Any ideas on staining the stack wrap white and how to seal polish it and keep it white?

I would sand down taking measurements while I do it and see if I couldn't get it alot closer. That's a heavy duty ca coat

The best way to rectify the situation, is to go back to the beginning!

I'm curious.
Why... Are you considering building up the channel when you clearly added to much finish?
Your making a bad situation worse.
Hopefully, it's not a customer's cue.

It's your first post here, and I don't want to disrespect you.
But WHY
Do you want to work on cues?
Not everyone who wants to do something can actually do it.
Nor should they!!!!

Thank you to all the comments, all coming from different directions but they all are good observations without visuals. I layed the clearcoat on super thick, so I just sanded it down to where it should have been and polished again. Now wrap sits flush.

A Pool Cue is not a Fishing pole!
Neither is a fishing rod.

I guess this section is only good for questions without follow up pictures.
WHAT A SURPRISE!

Surprise no the standard thing in the New World, like think you will get THANK YOU NOTE for a Wedding, or Birthday Present. As someone told me young people don't o that no more.

Good advice....

I would never double wrap linen. Has anyone actually done that? Did you tell the customer?

I have, twice I believe, used epoxy to build up the wrap surface to the diameter it should have been cut to and then wrapped it, and it worked out fine.

Double wrapping just seems like jury rigging to me, Neither wrap was the problem, so fix the problem.
