Refinishing a cue not by original maker

If Maker A refinishes a Maker B, given both were more or less equal in reputation and skill, would the cue loose value? How can you even tell if it was done if no-one said anything?

I don't mean in the case that one is dead and can't possibly do the work, more of a cost/time/distance issue.

cuemakers A thru Z are now inserting a RF chip in their cues. Whenever the original finish is disturbed the original cuemaker and everybody on AZ is notified. You will never get away with it. Unless Maker B does a good job of refinishing that is. In that case everyone will just chalk it up to being a glitch in the RF chip.

Its not a huge deal unless its a special petina or finish. As long it is not "obvious or improper," I* feel it is ok.

Well if the refinish is done by the same level of current cuemaker, it is pretty much ok. It's always better if the original cuemaker does it. If you are buying a cue and the seller won't tell or doesn't know if the finish is original, be a little wary. I keep an eye on Sherbine's to do list and I see a few cues come from him and are for sale a week later. You would be shocked to see those cues for sale later leaving this very small detail out.

In cases that the original maker is dead, then the list gets very short.
