Refinishing pool table

Hi,
I have a table from the 60's which I just removed the cabinet so that I can sand and refinish the wood. Before I put it back toghether I'm going to have the table re-felted. Is it also possible to tighten the pockets (shim)? Is this recommended? What is the right way to do it? I have a 1964 brunswick viscount that looks similar to a GC but with pretzel legs. Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you ready to change your cushions? If so, here's the correct way to extend subrails but, you will need new cushions, facings and feather strips, etc http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=60868&highlight=tighten+pockets

If you don't want to extend your subrails, you can add additional facings but, may need new rail cloth if your current cloth is cut away and can't be restretched. This isn't the proper way but has been done a time or two.....or a thousand

Or, there are a few mechanics on az that offer that service. Try Donny at sdbilliards on here. Not sure if Glen still accepts rails with his travels but you can certainly ask him....."realkingcobra".

Is there anyone that you can recommend around the Maryland area that can do this? Also, to give a rough estimate, how much would this usually cost so I know how much of my tax money to save.
