I could use some advice on if you all think that it would be worthwhile to re-shaft and refinish the butt of this cue. I know that I paid to much for the cue, long sad story, but that said I figure all in I would have about $500 into the cue. The cue has curly maple forarm with two points , It might be a n 85-6 but I'm not sure. I like the cue and think that I would enjoy shooting with it. Thanks, Landguy.

Just shoot with it unless it is soooo beat up that you can't stand it. If that's the case, I'll be more than happy to refinish it for you.

If you like it and want to use it as your player, then it's absolutely worth it. I don't know of anyone more qualified to do the job for you than Mike Erwin of Erwin Cues. He was the foreman at Meucci for 18 years in the early days. I did exactly that with my player, a 97-32 Crown Jewel that needed a new shaft and a refinish for the butt. He did a great job, was very punctual, reasonably priced and a pleasure to deal with. Couldn't be happier with it. Doesn't matter how much you have in it, if it makes you happy, it's priceless! For everything else, there's master card (sorry, couldn't resist).

Well, if you really like the cue then have it done. You just have to go into it with the realization that you will never recoup your investment. If you play a lot of bar boxes or tables with metal edges, your new refinish is not going to last forever. Inevitably your cue will hit those metal edges numerous times.
I find that there are 3 types of pool players( with respect to equipment).
#1 Those who have no respect for their equipment or anyone else's, they usually leave their cues in the car year round.
#2 Those who treat their cues and cases like a baby.
#3 Those who are in between.

If you are #1 then don't even consider it!

You will not hurt the value of the cue by getting this particular one refinished, some cues would be devalued. You have a 2 point which is probably an 84-3 or 84-4. If it has a brass pin, it is an earlier model and may be worth a little more.

A refinish on a cue makes it look brand new again. Most people never knew what their cue looked like in the new state ( or can't remember) so when I hand a refinished one to them they are very excited about the way it looks.

I would say if the plastic is cracked and you hear funny noises when you put a shaft on and hit it then it is time for a refurbish.

I do refinish and repair Meucci's, been doing them for 6 years now.
The refinish alone is $130.00(includes the clear over the new wrap), a shaft with the matched ring work will be $120.00 and any cracked plastic I will have to look at to give replacement costs.

All ferrules and plastic are implex material that is the same as Bob used to do it.

Good luck!
Larry
