REGARDS to my buffalo billiards buddies

How is the 9-ball Event turning out

It turned out good. JoeyA won the 9 ball tournament and the Calcutta. I thought you were going to be there. Calcutta paid 4 places. Tournament paid 6 places. JoeyA won the Friday One Pocket tournament also. How is your dad doing?
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

I thought the Calcutta only paid 3 places... that's what I saw

The sign on the bathroom door said 3 places would be paid in the Calcutta. It also said a race to 7 games. But the break down sheet written in big read letters said 4 places would be paid in the Calcutta. And the race would be to 5 games for the win in each match. I was sitting right behind Buffalo for hours. Perhaps I saw it wrong. But at least I was letting the OP know something about how it was going.
Many Regards,

Well someone owes my nephew some money cause he got 4th...

I'm just wondering if your nephew purchased himself in the Calcutta or if he bought half of himself?

Otherwise, the payouts are listed on the tournament sheets and as soon as a match is over, Buff pays right on the spot. If there is a descrepancy, the player should address it at that time.

Buff is the most honest, pool room owner in the country, especially when it comes to money. He has NEVER put the screws to anyone that I know of and if a mistake is ever made, he would be the first to correct it.

Your misunderstanding what I said... buff did pay him immediately I'm not trying to bad mouth or say anything shady about him or his place, he has a wonderful poolroom and the tournament was run perfectly...

But on the breakdown (the red writing on the tournament flyer) it showed 3 spots for Calcutta and 5-6 for the tournament... I gave him half his Calcutta money back since little Charlie bid him up... maybe I should have said he owes me money not someone owes him...

I'll try to help just clarify a couple of things for me:

Who is your nephew?
So Lil Charlie bought your nephew in the Calcutta?
You gave your nephew half of his Calcutta bid money back?
Did you or your nephew buy HALF of your nephews winning Calcutta bid from the successful bidder?

Thanks,
Joey

my nephew was the young left handed guy with the white hat that got 4th, he and charlie got in a bidding war (after the toothless guy from the back room ran in and said "he's going to take half himself" and charlie proceeded to bid until my nephew got to 80 dollars and charlie decided that was high enough... he left him alone, seeing as my nephew only had 100 on him, i decided to give him 40 bucks (half of his calcutta) back to him so i had something to sweat during the tournament... he bought all of himself, and buff gave him his tournament winnings, when i looked at the tournament board, it showed 3 places for calcutta, and i think it was 6 for the tournament...

pretty much a non issue just wondering

maybe your nephew didn't notice some money was from the calcutta

Is it possible your nephew didn't notice some of the money was from the calcutta? I have seen Buff do more than he said he would do many times, I have never seen him deliver less than promised. It isn't uncommon for him to add a little more the day of the tournament. Payout depth and calcutta places are usually based on a rough percentage of players entered as I'm sure you know. Buff probably decided to pay a little deeper when there was a little bigger turnout than expected.

Just speculation on my part of course, I wasn't there for this event. Hope to make the next one.

maybe im just an old fart and cant read correctly... it was a wonderful tournament run wonderfully and i look forward to the next one... buff was a really nice guy and he took special attention of my nephew, went out of his way to watch several of his matches and made him feel at home.

and Hu, if i make it to the next one, you have a beer/ coke / water or whatever you want coming to u on me...

sounds great

Sounds great. Maybe we will sneak around the corner and I'll score a poboy for you in return. No water for me of course. William Claude Dunkenfield's comment made so much sense to me that I have done my best to avoid that stuff ever since I heard it!

I will check the tournament sheet today and let you know.

I don't know how

you guys do your tournaments down there, but here in Wichita, the prize money is put into an envelope for each place, and the Calcutta money, if any, is put into a seperate envelope, so the kid should have gotten 2 envelopes with cash in them.

not always that uptown

We aren't always that uptown with all the envelopes and stuff. One reason I suspect the nephew might not have realized the money came from separate places. It may well have been in two piles and combined before handing it to him. I have seen purses counted directly into hot little hands many times, the same with calcuttas. The money is separate until it is paid to the player usually but then it may well be combined.

OK,
I went over to Buffalo Billiards and looked at the tournament chart.

The chart had not been corrected and in large red letters it said that there were 6 places in the tournament and three places in the Calcutta.

That was on the chart before the tournament started as well as the dollar amounts for each place.

So, there was no fourth place money for the Calcutta as it only paid 3 places.

Hope that settles it.
