Removing a cracked Collar & Butt Cap

Quick question:

I have 2 cues to repair. One with a cracked Collar and another with a crack in the plastic Butt Cap. How to you guys remove them? I was thinking of turning most of it off with a router. I am worried that if I use a lathe bit it will grab in the crack and rip off the entire thing and damage part of the cue.

Thoughts?

If it's still glued on, you can turn it off on the lathe. If it;s loose, you might be able to twist it off,

If it is cracked, you are correct in that you can catch the crack and wammo -- off it flies! Sometimes taking with it more than anticipated. You can fill the crack (in some cases) with cyano and accelerator, then cut off with your tool post.

Alternatively, you can use a parting tool to slice through where the butt cap ends and then cut off with a tool up to the parting. This would be the safest method.
