Removing Contact Cement form Wrap Groove

I have a wrap groove that has a slightly unusual amount of contact cement on it. I've used a couple of my common methods, razor blade and sandpaper, to try and remove it. The razor just keeps pushing it and spreading it more than removing the glue, and the sand paper is just causing it to clump.

I'm afraid if I get more aggressive using those two methods, that I will start to alter the groove depth (...and not at all evenly).

By the way...the wrap I removed was a Stack leather one to replace it with the same, just a different flavor. Any ideas on the best method? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Revision: Sorry...I found the answer after I posted. Should have checked first as I usually do.

Lacquer thinner and paper towels work fine, just fold them when you do the edges and you won't touch the finish,

Contact cement remover

The solvent for contact cement is different that any other. You can get it at any Home Depot or Hardware store. It's the only way to fly. It also works very well for thinning contact cement and makeing it much easier to apply without the big build-up. It also dries faster when thinned out. And if you use contact cement to install leather wraps, clean-up is a snap. Just be carefull because a little goes a long way. Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellahs. I didn't have time to go out and look for the products that were mentioned, so I opted for the lacquer thinner and paper towels. Works like a charm.

I was concerned that the thinner would not only help take the cement off, but potentially keep new cement from adhering. As it turns out, if you just sand the groove a bit, you can eliminate that problem .

What is the name of the product you suggested Kerry? I'll be checking that out tomorrow. Could come in handy if it is a faster fix.

Thanks again.
