Removing sealer from new shafts

I recently purchased a new cue and it seems that the shafts have some sealer on them. The question I have is how do I take off this sealer? What grit paper do I use? How do I do it without making a size difference from the shaft and the ferrule?

I do have a taig lathe I can use but it's not really set up for shaft work

Hi,

I would use 320 non clog for an even blend on the entire shaft.Then sand up to 1500, burnish and reseal.

What type of cue is it?Do you know what the ferrule is made of?Can you wipe it down with acetone and se if that does the trick?.....Ray

The cue is a southwest and the ferrules are melamine

Then I would say sanding with maybe 600 grit first .....Now be careful that an expensive cue you have there............Ray
