I have gone to the majority of Reno Opens since 1998. In the beginning the fields were huge (over 300 the first Dec. I played) and the tournament ran from Wed. til Sun. A few years ago they started having the tournament start on Tues. One more day of work the average player would have to miss. The turnout this year is around 165. On the first 2 days of the tournament, they were only using 5 tables per session. People were playng a match on Tuesday and then not agan until Thursday. I believe this to be the cause for many forfeited matches. The crowds watching the matches are puny. The Sands Reno tournaments used to be considered 2 of the top tournaments in the country. The Clacutta money this year was under $3,000! Is the interest in pool declining, or has this tournament been mismanaged to the point of extinction?
