Replace shaft / Use existing shaft joint collar?

One of my two shafts is down to 12.2mm and too thin for me, original owner was obviously sandpaper happy. Would like a replacement shaft made by the original cuemaker.

Is there any problem with re-using the shaft collar (black w/white stitching)? What's your rough estimate as to how much cost savings vs a new $225 shaft w/collar?

Thanks:)

The original cuemaker should have the ringwork available and would use them as opposed to going through the work of cutting off and preparing the original. Time=$$$ so I think it would be cheaper to use new ringwork.

If interested...
I can use your old shaft collar & make you a new premium shaft (SaberT/Iv4 & Moori/Sniper) for $120 shipped...because I like you Dave.;)

I don't mind using old rings. It's quite easy to do, and doesn't take much extra time or effort. Way LESS effort than making a billet to match....
The best argument for NOT doing this, is that you destroy the old shaft. If it's still good, it would be a shame to cut it up for the collars. Not many cuemakers out there can demand $225 for a shaft. There are plenty out there that make fine shafts for much less than that.

I absolutely agree.

How Special is the Ringwork?

I think that Varney or any other cuemaker here might be able to remedy the problem for you post haste....however, I think the question raised here is that if in fact the original shaft/collar is AOK then perhaps you should consider having a much better shaft :) and setup made :) for your own enjoyment....if you will  :D  :) HAPPY HALLOWEEN! :p

Thanks for all the sound advice and reasonable building offers. If I go with someone other than the original cuemaker will be PMing one of you soon for shipping address etc....:) View attachment 28924.
