Replacing a broken butt cap

A local guy as busted the butt cap on his Lucasi cue.
I want to replace it. Either with black linen or Delrin.
Since he`s not the most carefull guy I`m leaning towards black Delrin.
I don`t have the ability to do live tooling, so I`m wondering if i can hand tap dimensions that big and expect a positive outcome?
If I went with linen would glure relief lines be enough or do butt caps always need to be threaded?

Most butt-caps are NOT threaded on and I don't think that Lucasi is one that is.
I could be wrong, I haven't been inside a Lucasi recently.
You won't see anymore damage to phenolic than you will Delrin.
Phenolic can be glued......(and finished).

None of my butt caps are threaded, and they only break when the cue is jammed into the floor. In that case, threading wouldn't matter anyway.

If you're going to use delrin, then it'll need threaded or else will need a bolt to hold it in place. It simply doesn't cooperate with adhesive. Phenolic can be fit & glued with no threads or bolts to hold it. Nothing wrong with delrin. It's just not as user friendly as phenolic.

What KJ and Eric said. Phenolic is much easier to deal with and you can finish over it. No threading needed either.

Thanks guys  That makes things a whole lot easier for me.
Several companies sell black linen. Is it all the same or does the stuff Atlas, Prather (LFB) or cuecomponents sell differ in some way?
I need to order some stuff for buts and joints, and I would like it to be the highest quality finish possible.

You can actually order from Joe at CueComponents as he sells them pre cut for joint size and butt size. Very handy and time saving for repairs.
