Hey all... I just bought a new house and will soon have a 7-footer in the living room. It's some off-brand that my parents no longer want. It looks great (carved wood body), and it plays OK, but certainly not professional quality. I'm committed to doing what I can to upgrade it somewhat. The side pockets are big, but the corners are really tight. I never liked the feel of its cushions, they always seemed a bit stiff. So, I plan to replace them with something standard, something of a more professional caliber. I'll be replacing the cloth as well, so I figured why not get the rails redone at the same time. Maybe it's possible for someone to shim up the side pockets whilst replacing rail rubber? I dunno...
My question is, how difficult is it to replace rails without screwing something up? I have a few friends who have taken down and rebuilt dozens of tables, but I don't think they have ever replaced cushion rubber. Do I let them give it a go, or pay someone a bit more to do it right? I'm certain the latter is the best route... Any suggestions on high-quality cushions? I've seen the ones on the Diamond site, but I don't know much about the subject... I've only heard of those, and Accu-Fast. Any others to consider?
Also, I've read some discussions about how some prefer slow cloth on barbox-size tables, whereas some prefer fast. I think I'll probably go with Simonis 860, as thats what I'm used to around town and on league tables. Although, I'm completely open to suggestions!!!
