Report on customized full-splice Schmelke

This is the third Schmelke cue I've ordered.

This one, however, is quite different.

Although it's also a full-splice cocobolo with maple forearm (sneaky pete) and the joint is the same as my other full length cues (5/16X18), I ordered a very customized shaft with it. It's an 11mm tipped shaft, with a 15-16 inch pro taper, and a 1/4 inch ferrule.

This cue is the nuts.

Although it squirts less than my OB-1 shafted cue, it's way more powerful. It's flexible, or as some might say, whippy, but it shoots better than any other shaft I've ever had, including a Predator 314. It's very accurate, and moves the cue wall with ease, and draws equally easily. It likes a light touch, although for power force follows, or power draws, it pulls them off without a hitch.

I really have to hand it to the folks at Schmelke Cues, they are terriffic.

BTW, they made this cue especially for me. It took about 3 weeks to complete.

Cost? $145 for the customized cue, plus $9 for shipping.

What a deal!

i'm going to be ordering mine at the beginning of the new year.already got the price.

a have a thought about smaller tip diameters and power.

i come from a fighting background.i boxed and kickboxed for over ten years.
in kickboxing the thai style roundhouse kick is very powerful kick.it is delivered with the hips and trunk rotation.it is more powerful than a punch but when delivered to the body it has less effect than a good body punch.although the kick is more powerful it's contact surface is very long(the shin) and the power is dispersed more.the punch is less powerful but what power it has is delivered to a much smaller area and penetrates more.

so i was wondering if the same would apply to a cue ball.unlike the kick to the punch, the amount of power would be the same but the surface area would be different.

it probably doesn't make a difference but it just had me wondering.

In the case of cues, I don't know that the size of the tip makes a whole lot of difference in terms of power.

It's most likely a combination of factors, such as the shaft taper, density of the shaft wood, ferrule, tip, and the butt, too, of course. Also, weight of the overall cue has something to do with it.

By power in my above post, I'm referring to the speed the cue ball leaves the tip for a specific stroke.

I forgot to mention that it has an Elkmaster tip installed, not a milk dud. It's plenty lively as it is, and plays great.

Last night I put in about five hours of intense practice with it to become accustomed to it. And then played some 9 ball. There was a kid who saw me get out from difficult layouts a few times and decided to stop playing. I really don't get that; seems to me he should want to play someone who can challenge him :D
