Just by reading your post, I'd say it does bother you when you get some red rep. Which is probably exactly what they were hoping for. I get red all the time... from the same stupid poster who I like!
Does not really bother me. When I get it (haven't gotten any on this forum yet, but on others) I check what I got it for. In way over 90% of the cases it is because some knucklehead can't agree with my views. In a few cases my initial posting could be misunderstood in a negative way and that is when I try to correct a possible wrong impression.
However, normally people feel "excited" to give you red rep and desperately wait for an answer leading to a p.... contest. The worst you can offend them is to just ignore their red rep and not retaliate in the same childish manner.
Red rep maybe bothers me for 5 secs and after that the person normally goes to my mental "moron drawer". After a week or two I usually even forgot who gave me red. Those people are not really worth my time. Nor are they worth the work involved in creating an ignore list. They even might post something useful in the future and I would not want to miss that.
I have adjusted my forum reading to be very selective. If a thread gets old, I quit reading it. If a thread title is not interesting for me or plain stupid, I don't read it. That is also the reason why you don't find me on NPR. Just had a short look at the thread titles there and that was enough for me to not even want to open a single one. At least that happened the one and only time I have opened this subforum until now. My time is too valuable to engage in all the politics and mudslinging there. I like to discuss politics but in a civilized way - like in "person-to-person". The internet is not civilized in that sense.
The most childish thing is when I keep reading stuff like "I'll leave this forum because I'm p.o.", "I put you on my ignore list", "I gave you bad rep", "I retaliated with bad rep" and so on. Sheesh. Who wants to know and who is that going to impress? Even more so when your ignore list is just a pipe dream because you are way too curious how the "ignored" will respond and keep answering to his posts. Kindergarten.
