Requiem For A Pool Player.

Dear Gentle Readers,

Have any of you listened to Audra Mae’s haunting rendition of Forever Young? The version featured in that extraordinary, and underrated, biker soap, Sons of Anarchy?

Her weathered voice, those wistful lyrics … well, for some reason they made me think of pool. Of pool players.

That mournful elegy - - its desolate tone conveying the very opposite of its cheery title - - could apply to players recently passed. Or to those on the precipice. And also to those who are still so vital.

Yet, it’s heartening to me to think that Audra is singing to our babies. Those recently born and those about to burst onto the scene.

Naturally their chubby little fingers are already chalk-stained. That gimlet-eyed evaluation from the highchair is measuring, calculating … making sure that their share of the Gerber is more than a little in their favor.

Lamping the competition as they enter preschool? Of course … they’re already looking for an edge. Recess? Stand back!

Taking a logical thought to an illogical extreme is my life,

Sunny

P. S. I do recommend a listen. You can catch it on iTunes.

ummmmmmm,

Were "Substances involved," with this post ??

Trying to figure the neural link between Forever Young & pool.:speechless:

I have always liked the link I put below for a final tribute to the pool player who lived the life without apology.
