“Shoot Out in the Snow”……

We had a little of everything this month. 62 Players made their way to Clicks Billiards in Waco for our 12th monthly 9 ball event. As most of you know only 48 would get to play in the tournament. We had 12 players on STAND-BY waiting to see who on the list would not be there at 11:00am SHARP. 4 players were late and 4 stand by players got their spots. We also had 4 players voluntarily give up their spot to 4 other player and a couple even sold their spot for a little beer money. Caaaaaarazy! We started having these tournaments last May with a tornado and a power outage the night before and we finished out our first year with a snowstorm in April and a power outage during the tournament. Fortunately is was short lived and we got back to playing quickly.

Top picks for this month were Corey Dordek from Austin (last months runner up),Chelo Velasquez from Austin,Tony Barrington from Van,TX.,Steve Davenport from Austin, and Hassan Hossein from Killeen.

Finishing 7-8 was David Newman from Austin and Ashish Hingorani from Austin. These guys played some great pool!

Our 5-6th finishers were Frank Cherry from Dallas and Roger Allen from Houston. Both played very well and were definitely there to win!

Finishing 4th was Austin’s own Steve Davenport. Steve is always a threat and played great! Way to finish Steve!

3rd place was secured by another product of Austin,Tx, Brian Sanders. Brian plays some fast and loose pool and can really put it together. Great job Brian!

Gale Gladden from the DFW area started out the day playing one of two of the top female players in Texas, Tara McCracken of Dallas. Gale would prevail 7-2. Strangely Gale would then play Amanda Lampert of Dallas. Gale would also win that match 7-3. Not an easy thing to do as these girls can really play! Gale would then defeat Ray Obriant from Dallas 7-5. His next match was a very close one that many thought would go Frank Cherry’s way, but in the end, it was Gale 7-6 for a shot at the “hot seat”.

Tony Barrington of Van,Tx was here to play his last event, as he announced he will be moving to NC. Tony was a top pick and showed us why as he would start out winning over a strong playing Ralph Bullard of Lampasas 7-4, then defeating straight shooting Juan Parra of Oak Cliff 7-5. Tony was now building up a head of steam as he would steamroll Destry Ensley of San Antonio 7-1! His next match against Houston cue maker Roger Allen, who “knows how to use them too”, would go Tony’s way 7-5. At this point Tony was rollin’ and he would roll on to secure the “hot seat” against Gale Gladden 7-3!

Gale Gladden would go to the one loss side and defeat Brian Sanders of Austin for another shot at Tony. This may well have been one of the best finals I’ve seen in a while. It was one race to 9 and a close one throughout the match, as it would go Hill Hill 8-8, Gale had Tony on 2 fouls and hid behind a ball, Tony would kick and make a good hit leaving Gale a tough shot. Gale would make the tough shot, then miss an easy one leaving Tony a short run out for the Title! The DVD is gonna be “hot”!

Payday.....

Now that's a payout....1 day.........geshhhhh

Not a bad payday! Our largest payout to date.;)

There has been discussion about taking the field to 64 and taking the final 16 to Sunday. If we paid out the same percentage, it would pay 12 places.

Any input on this would be appreciated. I realize that not everyone posts or reads this forum. If you have friends that you bring or know that might not read here, please see what they think about it as well.

Thanks

Ray

Too Many Already.

I think 48 is just too many people  for a one day event and I would vote against a two day event. It needs to be limited to 32 players and I'm surprised that people are allowed to sell their spots. I would banish that as it is basically kidnapping. Also, the races should be 7/7 and the winner breaks. I like the option to rack your own.;)
You need to figure out a way to get the calcutta done in 30 minutes.:( Anyone that does not wish to participate should be excused.

Big C,

You’ve got a lot of ideas and that’s good. I don’t think I’ll be adopting any of them for the Waco tournament. Hope to see you at next months event, and please call Sat morning before you leave and be there by 11:00am or earlier. This will insure you get a chance at the $.

Appreciate the input!

Ray
