Hot Hot Hot in Waco!
It was a scorcher in Waco Saturday Aug 4 th for the Cue & A Billiard Promotions $50 9Ball. We had 40 players this month and some strong talent to contend with!
Top Picks this month were David Parker from Houston, Jay Thurman & Guy Faulkinburg from West Texas Steve Davenport from Austin, Henry Rocha from San Antonio, Nick Hood from Houston ( now living in Austin) and Chris Mooneyhan aka. Chris White from Austin ( now living in Houston).
Our 5-6th finishers were Corey Holcomb from Whichita Falls and Robert Wheat from Abilene. These guys played some great pool! One side note?. Robert Wheat did really well in the ring games on Friday. That guy really knows his way around that 9 foot table! He said he wished the tournament was on 9fts! Maybe someday.
Finishing 4th was Jay Thurman part of the West Texas invasion. These guys came to play!
Our 3rd place finisher was Mike Roundtree from Dallas. This was Mike's best finish here in Waco and he looked like he might go all the way. Good playing Mike! I think we'll be seeing Mike's name on that plaque pretty soon!
The young gun from Houston David Parker showed up in Waco to do some damage, and damage is what he did, leaving a trail of stunned opponents! His first match he won 7-5 against The Waco Donkey, Joseph Oliveraz,next he wrapped up Frank Cherry from Dallas 7-2, then from Dallas Juan Parra would lose 7-2, He would then topple Steve Davenport 7-5, next up Straight shooting 9 ft player Robert Wheat from Abilene would lose to David 7-1! He then defeated Mike Roundtree 7-2 for the "hot seat".
Local player Jimmy Davis...The quiet one at the players meeting, sitting...waiting..like a predator who just knows the kill is his. Jimmy started off the day playing Local "young gun" and last months runner-up Blake Holman, Jimmy would win 7-5, next he played another local Benny Scott winning 7-4, Jimmy would lose next to Mike Roundtree from Dallas 7-5,from the one loss side Jimmy would then defeat Kenny Oates from Wichita Falls in a nail biter 5-4, Local Horsey 5-0! Horsey just didn't have a chance with J.D. on his back like that! Robert Wheat 5-1, Jay Thurman 5-3 and then he would win a re-match with Mike Roundtree 5-3 for a shot at David Parker in the finals. It was a very exciting finals that was very close at 6-6 when Jimmy would catch a gear and finish off David 9-6. There were some really amazing shots in this match including a phenomenal masse by David. Jimmy Davis would be our new Champion!
