OK. The cat is out of the bag. We went over 32 players. We had 42 players make their way to Waco for the $30 entry monthly tournament at Clicks Billiards. There were players from all over the state…...Dallas,Denton,Mckinney,Wichita Falls,Houston,Austin,San Antonio and of course Waco. This created an interesting dilemma for everyone at the auction. No one knew very many people, creating an atmosphere of caution.

The top picks for this months event were Crispian NG, Gary Vanover,John Rollins,Charlie Rikard and Benny Scott. Of these, only 2 would finish in the money.

Our 5-6th finishers were Charlie Rikard (a regular top pick) and local “young gun” Jonathan Neuman, who’s game is really maturing. “Good job” to our local guys!

Finishing 4th was Shonn Ballew from Houston. Shonn is one hell of a shot and always fun to be around. Great Job Shonn!

Third place went to Mark Church, a very solid player who looked like he was going all the way from the very beginning. Nice work Mark!

Jeff Georges, from the McKinney area, started out strong by defeating a very strong “old school” player Newell Bullard 7-3, Royce Bunnell of OB1-Cues 7-4, TJ Carew 7-1 and then top pick Charlie Rikard 7-4 for a chance to play for the “Hot Seat”.

Coming in strong AND solid was another top pick Gary Vanover, yes the son of Texas pool legend Bob Vanover. Gary started out by defeating Austin "straight shooter" Steve Kilgore 7-5, Roddy Chim of DFW area 7-1, Mark Church 7-4, then Shonn Ballew of Houston 7-5 for an exciting “Hot Seat” match with Jeff Georges.

Everyone watching was saying, “It’s Georges” ,and that is exactly how it went in the “Hot Seat” match as Jeff would defeat Gary Vanover 7-3. Gary was not easily discouraged though as he went over to the one loss side to defeat Mark Church 5-2 for another shot at Jeff Georges in the race to nine finals. Both players were tired and playing loose at the start, but the one who kicked it up a notch and closed it out was Gary Vanover 9-3. Great Playing to Jeff Georges, whom I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of, and congratulations to Gary Vanover our new Champion.

Special thanks to all who made the trip to Waco this month! Thanks to Tim Byrum of Lonestar Billiards for bringing us cue repair, James Hanshew of Hanshew Custom Cues for his support (makes some really nice cues!) 254-498-1941., Thanks to Jim Ashby for hosting the event, many of us are praying you make a rapid recovery Jim! Thanks to Lewis Jones and PKL promotions for sponsoring us with a paid entry to the Fast Eddies 9Ball tour in San Antonio Nov 18/19.

1st – 550/600 + paid entry to Fast Eddies 9 ball
2nd – 300/300
3rd – 145/150
4th – 95/75

Thank you, thank you.

It had been a long time since I played in a field with that many solid players. I am really looking forward to the next one.

Maybe this time I can get in that banks mini?!?

Thanks for the kind words!

Benny wanted to match up on some banks......Did you'all talk?

Benny stiffed someone there after walking out on a 5 AHEAD set. You can't quit an ahead set and not pay up.

Other than that we had a good time, i'll be bringing a sack lunch next time...lol I'm hurting for food halfway thru.

Good Job, Ray!

No, we never got a chance to talk. But by the time I knew there was someone looking for a banks game I was pretty set on finishing up the 9-ball and getting back home.

And some of the people from these parts were pretty upset at Benny over something else that happened while I was playing. I didn't get the full story, but they were quite peeved.

Jesse...

Can you believe I didn't eat anything more than part of a cookie on Saturday until we left and I got a taco at Taco Bell.

I lost almost 6 pounds on Saturday. On the bright side its the first time I have been under 200 in about 20 years.

I can't eat while I am playing. Never have been able to.

Sounds like Benny needs some etiquette school!

I think we'll have some eats delivered next month. Our County allows you to order food in, or bring it in, but clicks can't sell it to us. Crazy!

Yeah, Benny was up 4 games playing 5 ahead for $50, and the person he was playing ran out 4 racks real quick and all of a sudden Benny says that the table was rolling funny and the cloth was too slow; he quit saying if they wanted to continue, they could go down the street to another pool hall and play.

Very well run tournament though Ray; I might not be able to make the next one, but I'll be at the one after that for sure.

Next Month's will be the same weekend as the season finale of the Fast Eddie's tour. I will go to Click's if you have it that weekend. I won't be making the finale. There's a Concert that I wont to go to that weekend also.

I dont think that Benny will be matching up with too many players from Dallas after Saturday.

After Benny's lead got down to 0, I think Benny's exact words were..."that's good, we're even." Then started breaking down his stick. It was only 50 bux, but it's the principality of the matter. :D ;) :p

i allways pay!

Benny Scott

I haven't spoken to Benny yet, but I can tell you Benny doesn't leave the streets of Waco much. Not many in Waco play ahead sets. I'm pretty sure he mis-understood his obligations on the ahead set. I'll post again after talking to him.

Most people here will always pay as agreed, however I like to post the green. It is the safest bet.

Tell us how you really feel. LOL. :D
I'm not sure if Ray talked to him or not, but it didn't look good at all for Benny to quit like that.

Spoke to Benny

Spoke to Benny, gave him the posts from here. He read it and has not responded. I believe Timber1 is, while candid, mostly correct in his assessment.
