Rethreading a 3/8-10 shaft

I need to rethread tha shaft on a nice cue and wish to be sure that the newly threaded shaft meets the butt as evenly as the original threading did.
My plan is to rebore for a 1/2 inch phenolic plug then glue, drill and tap in the normal fashion but I am concerned that the newly threaded shaft joins to the butt as well as the original threadined shaft. Assuming that I center and drill properly am I worry unneccessary or are there some tips that will ensure a smooth connection to the butt?
Your imput is appreciated

I do a very light reface to the shaft joint after a re-threading like you are talking about. Although stitch rings may not line-up as they did before (butt to shaft), the butt and shaft should be true to each other again. Just make sure the shaft is running true before doing any operations.
