reusing cloth

I want to reinstall cloth on a GC III that i recently bought since it looks to be worn very little. The staple marks on the slate backer show that maybe the table was redone only 2 or 3 times. The question is the best way to restretch since the pocket cuts are already there and the edges have been trimmed so there's no good selvedge to grab. Pulling a bit tighter than original using canvas pliers would seem to be the answer but there's no way to index the pull. I'm very experienced in woodwork and upholstery and have the right tools and equipment and have no fear of screwing up but if I do I'll certainly hire a professional mechanic to install new cloth. Should I give it a try? Mitch

I'm not a mechanic ... but try it. You can't really hurt anything but your pride.

I thought about trying it once but if its Simonis cloth,I'd buy

A pair of those cloth stretcher tools. They cost about 75 bux

I never put cloth on a table until I did the bed cloth on my Gold Crown. When I first bought it I reused the original cloth and it went on just fine. A little common sense goes a long way. Since you have upholstery experience this should be pretty simple for you.

I agree with fastone371 .. you've already got a crease to give you a line to pull to or maybe even past to get it tighter. Lucky for a DIYer! Just get the slates level and the rails square.
