To all AZ members seeking to build thier own Reverse Switch for DC Motors only. Also the motor must have equal turns or marked as Rotation: REV.
Here is how I build the reverse switch for the Penn State DC Motor.
list of parts
1. 3-way DPDT 20A Toggle Switch Retail $3-$5 I found it at Amazon for $2.88 http://www.amazon.com/DPDT-Heavy-Duty-Toggle-Switch/dp/B001TJ6OBU/ref=pd_sim_dbs_auto_6
2. Male and Female connectors ( one for the motor side and the other for the controller/converter box.(see pictures below)
3. Project box from Radio Shack only $2.69
4. 8" of 16 Gage braided copper wire.

The pictures are for the penn state motor, you can apply the same design to other DC Reversable motors, just change the connectors to whatever the motor has. The Penn State control Box has 2 main functionalities.
First it converts your home 115V AC electric to 90-110V DC.
Second is the speed control fuction.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: THE 3-WAY SWITCH IS VERY IMPORTANT PART. YOU MUST TURN THE SWITCH TO THE MIDDLE (OFF) BEFORE FLIPPING IT TO REVERSE. YOU COULD BURN THE MOTOR IF YOU USE A 2-WAY SWITCH. THIS IS THE SAFESTAND WAY ON HOW TO BUILD THIS REVERSE SWITCH. JUST LIKE DRIVING A CAR, YOU HAVE TO STOP GOING FORWARD BEFORE YOU SHIFT THE TRANS TO REVERSE . ALWAYS SWITCH THE MOTOR OFF FIRST BEFORE SWITCHING IT IN TO REVERSE AND VISE VERSA. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO ADD STRAIN RELIEF ON THE CABLES, I DIIDN'T INCLUDE THAT IN MY PICS, BUT YOU CAN LOOK AT THE ONE DAVE38 MAKES, THOSE GOT THE STRAIN RELIEF ON THEM
FYI: I WILL ONLY BE MAKING THOSE SWITCHES FOR MY 1.4" BORE HEADSTOCK, AND FOR ALL MY CUE REPAIR LATHES THAT USES THE PENN STATE MOTOR. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU GUYS BUILD YOUR OWN SWITCHES. THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS REVERSE SWITCH SHOULD NOT BE GREATER THAN $8-$10 ( I FOUND ALL THE PARTS AT RADIO SHACK EXCEPT FOR THE MALE CONNECTOR.
FOR EVERYONE ELSE WHO JUST WANTS TO BUY ONE INSTEAD, YOU CAN BUY THEM FROM DAVE38 HE SEEMS LIKE A KNOW IT ALL DO IT ALL GUY.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU DAVE WITH THOSE SWITCHES, YOURS DOES LOOK REALLY NICE, NO JOKE.

BEST REGARDS
BASSEL

EDITED 6/19/10
I just noticed that you edited your post. Thanks Bassel for removing your false statement aimed at me. Of course you then added a somewhat sarcastic one in it's place but I can live with it. I'm not a 'know it all' just have a lot of hands on experience in the field of electrical and electronics (about 30 yrs.) Also, always remember, everyone that reads our posts on this site are always potential customers, and should be treated as such, just saying. I am now going to delete my original post, as all I wanted from you was a retraction or a public apology.
