Revo (love it but it hits awful)

The Revo Shaft Could Be Improved.......IMO.

I would definitely get the Revo shaft ........if....it had a color band or something to substitute
for no ferrule. I know the Predator gold tip is distinguishable but I want something equivalent
to what would be a small ferrule. I've tried the Revo shaft and IMO, seeing and developing
the feel of my stroke just seems odd and more difficult. Just a 1/8" or 1/4" color band would
work fine since I'd imagine adding a ferrule made of a different material would impair the
performance of the Revo shaft or any other carbon fiber cue shaft.

Tommy Hill has a Cuetec shaft that was a experimental version. It has a small ferrule which
the Revo shaft obviously doesn't. The shaft otherwise is all carbon and I liked it a lot more
than any of the Revo shafts he has which I think is now at three (3)........he has two sons
that play pool. Anyway, if it was possible to have the Revo shaft with a distinctive marking
at the tip where the ferrule would normally be, I'd order a Predator Willie 526 with 12.9mm.

It's plain as the nose on your face that the Revo shaft is dominating the cue shaft business
and intentionally limiting the production helps keep the demand exceedingly high which only
adds to its mystique. You hear about folks paying >$700 for a Revo shaft which is evidence
of the shaft's superior performance. Anyway, I'm curious to learn whether any others share my
view about the Revo shaft; if Predator offered a color band option underneath the tip, I'd get one.

Oh my...a heretic!!!! But Southwest cues must hit like a monster, hence the ludicrous cost. Alas, I suspect that a stroke can't be bought nor sold...

Just to add a little spice. I traded that POS Southwest for a JossWest. Now that was one sweet cue.

Lol, cool. I'm of the mindset that cues don't matter too awfully much, and therefore think that it's mostly ornamental reasons that one cue tends to have more value than another. Having said that, I paid I nice price for a custom with some bling and a long taper shaft.

I'm also of the mind that I like variety in life and pool is no exception, so if your ever around the Lexington area, I'd love to play some cheap onehole or whatever else.

Cheers,

Nel

I’m there every year for Derby. We usually stay in Georgetown. I used to go to Bank Shot but their closed. Once I went to John Brumbacks place for 1P. Once up to Cincinnati area to play. I’ve posted for playing in Lexington before and no one answered. I’ll let you know next time.

I agree with Bob Jewett & Bca8ball - a different tip will make all the difference. The harder the more prominent the hit will be.

One other thing you can do is stop using it for a few days and you will apprediate how good this shaft is.

Matt,

As an experiment I had a thick white c.f. pad put between red pad and black tip.

With white pad my visuals are much, much better. The pads did not change the hit or performance one bit.

Not to mention, now I don't have to worry about the red pad hurting accidentally being altered which will end warranty.

Win...win...

I've got pics if you want.

Rake,

I'd like to see any photos and this thread would be an excellent spot to start.
It just makes sense to offer something that does not necessiate any retooling.
Predator could easily come up with something just like you were so innovative.
It would be terrific if Predator emulated your creativity & came up with an option.
Would changing the pad or tip in any way undermine Predator's Revo warranty?
Considering that tips have to be replaced eventually, I'm inclined to think it shouldn't.

Thanks,

Matt B.

I will put pics up very soon.

As for warranty, nope, it doesn't void it.

As a matter of fact, the extra pads add extra protection against damaging the red pad.

Average tip install on revo is to worry about not getting into red pad. With extra white pad ontop of red pad...... Now my tip guy is much more comfortable putting tips on.

Now his only concern is scratches but not the red pad thickness.

As I said earlier, I've not felt or seen any change in performance since pad install.

Pics coming soon,

I just made a short vid since I could not get a pic to upload. Here it is:

Thanks for the video,

From the side view, it looks great and so does the top view.
The only thing that I can't discern is the sight view that only
the shooter can see. In other words, when looking down the
shaft, can you still view the pad where it stands out or would
a wider color band be the ultimate. I was thinking something
about a 1/4" width seems ideal but this white pad might work.

I have not actually measured it but I will and let you know what it is.

I will also do another vid showing it from a shooters view.

One question, how low to the cue stick is your stance? Reason I ask is because my stance is in between traditional (higher above cue) and modern (lower to cue).

I tell you what, I will do the following views:

1. Camera sitting on cue joint like a chin touching cue
2. After 1. I will show a view at ~2" increments from cue joint going straight up till almost vertical.

I will try to have the vid up tomorrow evening.
