Revo owners - any difference in stiffness/firmness between the diameters?

For those of you who have owned different diameter Revos (11.8, 12.4, 12.9). Assuming same tip, weight, joint, length - did you notice if one was stiffer/firmer than the other?

I see their website says 12.9 is the stiffest, but I am having a hard time seeing that assuming everything is the same - tip, weight, joint, length, wall thickness, etc. If anything I’d ‘think’ the smaller the diameter the stiffer they would feel when hitting the cue ball.

If wall thickness stays the same, basic statics tells us that the stiffness will increase as diameter increases.

Are you stating that based on wood or cf though? I didn’t do research or anything, but my gut says bigger diameter would be more ‘hollow’ where smaller would feel stiffer/direct - assuming same wall thickness. Wood would be a completely different story of course and density, grain, etc comes into play. Again, never did any research or anything on this just curious. Mainly why I was asking people who have owned different diameters.

Material doesn't matter. All things equal, bigger diameter is stiffer. End of story. Doesn't matter if it is wood, steel, CF, or hubba-bubba.

Bigger diameter hollow may sound a bit more hollow due to lowering the natural frequency and increasing the sound chamber volume. It will be stiffer, though, unless the wall is much too thin and collapses.

Wood, steel, etc are solid. CF shafts are tubes. Do you own different diameter Revos? Have you hit with different diameter Revos. I was mainly interested to hear from either of those people.
 
Got it. Does this translate back to the feel of the hit though? Bigger diameter, more foam, different tone, etc. Curious to hear from from people who own or have shot with them - same tip, weight, length, joint.

I don't need to own something to know this answer. Wood and steel can be hollow and that was accounted for in my answer.

This is simple "moment of inertia" stuff that you all should have learned in college mechanical engineering classes.

As the diameter gets larger, stiffness goes up with the 3rd power (x**3) {assumes the wall thickness stays the same.}
So if the 11.8 shaft is give 1 unit of stiffness::
the 12.4mm would be 19% stiffer (1.18873)
The 12.9mm would be 30% stiffer (1.2065)

This is true if you are only considering the beam deflection from an off center hit.

Most of the force comes from simple compression in the axial direction. This difference in this component of stiffness would be more or less directly proportional to the difference in diameters, if wall thickness remained the same.

Didn't take those - computer and informational sciences here. Even still... most things I haven't used in all these years have slipped my mind. I was a few classes away from a Math major as well, but since I only really use the basics in daily life/work barely remember the higher end stuff :)

I think we can say this case is closed... even though we still haven't heard from anyone who has owned or played with them haha.

A little off base but i hit the Mezz Ignite(12.2)the 12.9 Revo and a 11.8 Cuetec and i didn't notice much difference in the feel or stiffness of the three. Subtle differences but nothin major. The Revo12.9 might have a tad more deflection but not much. Just wish Mezz offered a 12.7 Ignite.
 
I hit both, I didn't notice a difference. Tried someone else's 12.4 and own the 12.9. They were different tips though.
I really like the hit of the 12.9 but I'm probably going to sell it. Not really sure I want to leave maple high deflection behind and if I keep going back and forth my game will get far worse than it is.

The 12.9 may be slightly stiffer. I only have shot with 12.4's which I really like. I am so glad I didn't go 11.8 I got a break cue that is conical like the 11.8 and the pro taper is far superior than conical imho.
 
I had the Revo 12.9 first.

When I got the Revo 12.4, I was a little let-down because it wasn't as stiff as the 12.9.

I like the diameter of the 12.4.........but I play better with the 12.9 :cool:

What if the taper changes for each diameter?
