There are terrific match-ups today. I'm looking forward to Strickland-Barouty, at 1:30 and Appleton-Eberle at 4:30.

Not many people realize Earl is a fine straight pool player. He's run over 400! His opponent, Danny Barouty, while not renouwned outside the NYC area, is a major straight pool force and capable of kicking off a 100 ball run at any time. This is a "pick-em," in my estimation.

Appleton-Eberle could represent the finals. Appleton, one has to argue, is probably the leading straight pool player these days. His precision position play and shotmaking make him formidable to say the least. Max Eberle is the sleeper. Max has long loved straight pool, having been taught the game by his legendary grandfather. He knows the game, he's playing great, he does not miss, so this match should be a barn-burner. Appleton by a nose, but it's a tenuous choice.
