so i was shooting in my usual place last night when i notice the guy next to me is shooting with what looks like a palmer!

i ask him.. and he says a guy named ricco who does customs made it just for him, to resemble a palmer... he seemed to be a small collector of cues, and a huge lover of the game.... told me he had around 20 cues that i'm going to his house to look at next week. he noticed my schon and told me he had been wanting to pick up a schon to add to his collection...

so he offered me a flat swap on one of two cues...

a prince with cocobolo forearms and but, b.e.m. points. single veneer. 4 pointer. let me tell you the points were SHARP. they just kind of disappeared into the cue. he also centered the one of the inlays to be perfect in the middle of the saturn rings on the cocobolo. looks AMAZING. 2 shafts on that one. $800 mint condition.

he also offered me a simple 4 point ricco with clovers at the tips of the point, but it had 14 kt gold dots inlayed in the clovers. there was another similar design in the butt, with the same gold inlays. one shaft. $750 great condition, but been used, shaft needed cleaned. linen wrap felt bulky

wasnt sure if i should cut an even swap or not for the schon i picked up off of bama. what do you guys think? any of you interested in me picking either of these cues up for you? i cant get pics until next week, if i can get them, but believe me the prince is amazing.

let me know what you think i should do.

thanks for the help.

Ricco Cues

The value of a cue rests in what you want and how much you like it, etc. Very difficult to say whether or not you should trade the Schon....I happen to know you did get a pretty good deal on it.:D

I am not familiar with Prince cues, but the Blue Book says a level 4 Prince with 4-10 points, 9-25 inlays is $650 (100% condition), and $510 (90% condition). I am certain Saturn rings would add some value.

I have had Ricco cues before. Rigoberto "Ricco" Cervantes has been making cues for a long time. He had retired and moved away and his son, Marco was making them. I don't know for sure now, because I had heard (1) that he had returned to making a few cues, and (2) that he had passed away. At any rate, it should have his "Cues by Ricco" signature on the butt, either with or without a mustache on it. His cues are nice, but have a very limited following. I had a real tough time moving the ones I had and lost money on them. A level 3 cue as you describe is listed as $650 (100%) and $515 (90%...if it is 70%, only $345). The gold inlays could add some value.

Everybody wants a Schon..... Bama:)

If I had a Szamboti, I would certainly keep it over any Schon I have seen!! They are fairly nice cues!!:D

I bought two Prince cues some years ago and they were quite frankly poorly made. You could feel the points after a month or so and there was some warping issues. It was at that time that I vowed never to buy a cue from anyone who has not been making cues for at least 10 years. For $800, you can get a lot of good quality cues from well know cuemakers out there.

In Prince's defense, he probably has been making cues for 10 years now, so maybe he has worked out the kinks??

Regards,

Doug

a collector wanting a schon appears a bit flakey to me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i thought collectors saved custom cues, not production cues
