A lot of RC3's points would have veneers on only one side. They are very unique.
He uses the G10 epoxy pin on some of his cues like what you would find on a Cognoscenti--but he usually uses the steel pin, which is like a 3/8x10 but a bit different.
Richard is a very artistic person and it shows in his elegant designs. When you look at the color and the grains of the wood, you will appreciate that his cues are truly a piece of Art. He also uses gold and all kinds of expensive materials on his high ends but I have only had experience with his medium range cue as I used to play with one about 4 years ago. You have to look very carefully around the points to see his logo nowadays.
I think with the hit, his cue seems a bit more on the soft side. It is nevertheless a very personnal impression; when I tried his cue, I felt like the cue was yelling out "spin that cue ball...come on...you can put a lot more than just that..." You will have to try the cue yourself to see if it would work for you.
In my humble opinion, RC3 is for sure a great cue to own whether you are buying the cue to add to your collection or as a weapon.
I have never seen a metal joint RC3 so I am afraid I really cannot comment on what you were referring to.
Regards,
Richard
