Richie Florence cue

I was given this cue by a friend of the family. He lives near Sacramento and told me he purchased this cue around 1974. I was looking to have it cleaned up and maybe stripped and re-coated. I started doing some light research and was directed to not touch it unless i talk with someone who specifically knows these cues. I was then lead here. The knowledge here seems overwhelming.

PLEASE ADVISE me on what course of action should be taken-

I would like to know who the actual maker is since there is no markings
Where or If I should have the cue brought back and or cleaned up.

I'm by no means an expert at cue ID and I certainly don't want to be a buzz-killer but,
I don't believe the cue is American made. It could be, I just don't think so.
What leads me to say this is the clear-coat on the stainless jnt collar.
An American CM wouldn't do that, he'd polish it.

As to the refurbish, the C-Tec needs to know what he's doing. He'll be working with stained wood.
Also, it appears to be a lacquer finish (yellow) most notable on the shaft and butt-cap.
That would be the first to go. The body of the cue would be a delicate balance to keep from sanding
thru the lacquer and getting into the stain, while removing as much of the yellow as possible.

Since there is some sentiment in play here, spending a few bucks would be warranted.
Polish out the jnt collar, do a good prep-sand on the body, shoot some auto-clear and a new wrap.
You'll give the cue new life. It doesn't look to be beat up and hopefully it's fairly straight.

Good Luck, KJ

If a true RF cue it was built by Dale Patten, Richie's brother in law. A true gentleman in my dealing with him in the early 80's. Ariel Carmeli beautifully repaired and refinished Richie's actual playing cue (Szamboti blank) a few years ago for the current owner who purchased the cue from Richie's nephew. Although there are many competent cuemakers who could do the restoration, I wouldn't hesitate to contact Ariel and have him do the work (imakepoolcues@aol.com). When it comes to repairs and restorations of this kind I don't know of anyone better. Martin

Is there any definitive way to tell If this is a RF cue? Not that it really matters cause I love this cue.

Thanks Jazz- I'll send Ariel an email

I have several Florence cues and spent a lot of time with Dale Patton at his house from 1977 till the 90s when he passed
