Ridge Forming at Slate Seam

Where'd my stroke go?

Just a question for the mechanics out there. My friend has a GC4 that was reclothed about 2 months ago. Recently, I noticed a white line forming in the cloth along the slate seam near the head string. Then a couple days ago, we started seeing balls hop or roll off slightly when rolled over the seam.

We are wondering what could cause this and whether or not we need to call in a table mechanic to have it fixed.

Thanks,
Vic

Popped seem usually will require the mechanic back... The GC4 has an adequate frame so something he did when he leveled the slates slipped... IF he was using shims instead of playing cards that is your likely answer......

Where is the table located? How were the seams bonded?

My garage table did exactly the same thing earlier this summer. Turned out the wax had melted and come up in the joint. The tip off was both seams coming up at the same time.

Fairly easy fix, mechanic will have to pull cloth and scrape off excess wax if that is what's going on.

Good luck.

Not sure how they were bonded but the table is located in a basement, and I can't see it getting hot enough for anything to melt. I'll check again, but I'm pretty sure the slates have "slipped" slightly at the seam as Renfro said.

Anyway, we'll contact the mechanic to have it taken care of. Thanks for the quick replies!

A GC4 has its own leveling system where the table guru shouldn't need to use shims or playing cards. There is also levelers in the center of the frame to support the slate as well. Is the table set on carpet, is it in a basement or on an upper level? Is not totally uncommon for it to happen.
