Riding The 9!

Agreed!!! If it's what I think it's the exact way I play!!!
Perfect, you'll love the game. You can win on any shot! The object balls are to be used and abused, who cares if the go in the pot or not- the game is all about the 9! every shot! If you aren't trying to win why are you playing?

My memory is unreliable, but I'm pretty sure we played this a bit back in the 80s. The rules are very simple:
  1. hit the lowest ball first
  2. if (and only if) the 9 ball moves, you shoot again
  3. whoever sinks the 9 ball wins

I'll give you this, you are very first person in two years on the forum who even thinks they may have possibly played Texas One Shot, failed memory or not.

There is hope for the game after all!

Really? I'm sure I heard of it from somewhere, long ago. (Not w/your name of course, probably just called "ride the nine".)
I don't remember playing it much, maybe because it seems like most people aren't willing to play any game that isn't 8 ball or 9 ball.

In real life people have been very open to trying a new game. The Phat Rack helps draw them in. Since most people have played 9ball Texas One Shot feels very familiar. It is so cool to earn shots without making balls. Let's play it again is often heard as soon as the first game is finished. People are very proud of the shots they make and love the way the game requires thought. Players and bangers both think they can win in one shot. Smiles are the best reviews!

It is a lot harder to get the virtual people to play the game and give a review. Timing I guess!?

- why is this called one shot
- why is the rack askew

Instead of "How can we change the rules of 9-ball to make it a better game"

Why not ask the question:: "Why is it not all that great of a game" in the first place ???

The answer is not kind to rotation games:: It should take at least 38 shots to make all the balls in a rack--just like snooker.

9 ball is a great game for decent players that tend to run just 4 or 5 balls, but not bad players or great players.

as the last two, one never makes enough balls to have fun, and the other runs out every time as its too easy.

Watched Mike Collins, a dedicated 9 ball rider, play Dick Tischler (Lake City Red's son) who was a dedicated run out kinda guy play for a few hours one night back in the mid 80s at The Name of the Game tavern here in Seattle. They ended up quite even at the which surprised us. I would have put my money on Dick and I think most who knew those two would as well. If it came down to just good practice time, Dickey T. was the winner. It was a money match probably for $5 a game or thereabouts.

Thank you for asking! Yes I am a proud Texan!!

The game is called One Shot because a player can always win in one shot. Every time the 9 moves it could fall in a pot for a win. If the 9 does not move the player never stood a chance of winning, the 9 could not go in. If you could of won, shoot again. If you never stood a chance of winning, go sit down, your turn is over. Win by potting the 9.

The rack is askew because a new game deserves its own cool rack. They let me name the company Twisted Texas Style LLC which inspired me to twist the 9ball rack and the Phat Rack was born. Spot the 9, challenger racks, break your own,

It is my job to sell as many 'Phat Rack Lover, 'Phat Rack Specialist' and 'featuring the Phat Rack' Tshirts as I can before the market dries up.

Texas One Shot is focused on winning every shot, only one ball matters every shot, every shot is about what happens to the 9. And the Phat Rack let's you know you know your not playing your daddys 9ball. You are playing THE game for Showoffs!

Sorry, man, but this sounds like a solution for people who can hit hard, but can't make It may be the solution to how do you make pool more fun than just potting balls?

The game introduces a new reward system to pool which requires new strategies to find success. It does not favor bangers over players, no game does. It appeals to bangers because it is fun to play the harder shots. The game let's you see if you really have the skills you think you possess or do you need more practice?

Bangers like it but it really shows their weaknesses which gives them motivation to grow. Changing the reward system of a game really changes the strategy of the game. Playing Texas One Shot allows the opportunity see and feel how a different reward system impacts the game of pool. The game combines the need for technical skill shots with aggressive decision making for a fun thinking man's game. The only way to appreciate the innovation Texas One Shot brings to pool is to play a game.

You are correct that most people don't get past 8 or 9ball. But this site is full of people who are passionate about pool and I am trying to understand why noone has tried playing the game and leaving feed back? I had hoped something as radical as changing a well known game's reward system would spark a few people's curiosity to the point they would actually shoot a game to see how it affects the game.

Please, somebody, shoot a few games and leave some feedback!

It's not a trick to steal your money or to make you look bad. I'm not trying to ruin pool or corrupt children. I do believe a game as innovative and fun as Texas One Shot is has a real chance to impact pool in a positive way.

with a record breaking 29 million viewers, these people have the same goal as you,
cue sports in the olympics
With Texas and China pulling in the same direction, what could go wrong?

I mean, imagine the possibilities.

Redefine Olympic Pool
