When you are in that happy place and you can't miss. You are not thinking about it you are just doing it. What is the best way to learn from this?
I find that if you analyze what you are doing too much it takes you away from that place, but if you don't try and figure out why, how do you learn?

If you'd like to learn how to get into "dead stroke" or the "zone" at will....good luck...if that secret could get bottled and sold for all sports then somebody is going to be a multi-zillionaire.
It's like trying to figure out how you can get one side of your brain working with the other any time you want.

So here's a test, if you can figure out how to do THIS then you might be closer to bottling the "zone".

While sitting in a chair or standing, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now while doing this, draw the number 6 in the air with your right hand.

I'll bet everything I own against everything you own that your foot will change directions and there's nothing you can do about it. If you figure it out, then I think you'll be on your way to finding the zone at will.

D'at brain just wants to work the way it wants to work and on its own time frame.

When you are in the zone, dont analyze it, go with it!

After you are done playing, I think this is where the work begins.
You must reflect on what you did to take you there, and how you felt & thought while you were there. These are the thoughts and feelings to try to emulate in the future. It cannot be fully understood becasue it is in the subconscious. I think you can only take the steps you knwo that will work for you to give yourself a chance to get there. Sometimes you will, most of the time you wont.

It is all a frame of mind.

Most of what this guy says other people take the time to agree or disagree with so I just stay out. But this is one of the biggest challenges for anyone who has been there before. How to make it happen again, that zone. He's right. There's not black and white text to tell you how to get there agian. That might just be Gods gift of natural talent to some of those who we wish we could play like. We just hope that maybe there is something that MAKES us get into dead stroke and we TRY SO HARD to figure out what that is. Maybe its Vitamine B. Maybe its not drinking the night before. Who the Hell knows. But if anyone finds out please tell me because Ive been wondering for sometime now.

The secret (it's always a secret, isn't it?) is in your question. You talk of a "happy place." This is the way to deadstroke, through your motivation for playing, not by chasing the good feeling.

Happiness is the ultimate purpose of life, is it not? If you've done your work (the rational, natural requirement for long-term happiness) before you play pool, then the only thing left for your mind to do, is to add to your happiness...hopefully by letting you play your best. If you're not done working, your mind will be distracted by survival pressures, which usually do not include pool. (pros and road players are exceptions, I suppose)

This doesn't guarantee deadstroke, but I'd say integrating the big picture is a necessary ingredient in one's successful shot. So, my advice is make sure you know exactly why you play and consciously create circumstances that make your "why" real. Natural deadstroke will result....sometimes, anyway.
