I am right handed but ever since I picked up a pool cue in highschool, I have shot left handed. IE: with my right hand as the bridge hand.

Anyone else shoot like this?

I am right handed and shoot left…I like it cause I never have an awkward bridge hand. I might be a little odd using the rake…I shoot right.

 My wife shoots like that.....does that mean you shoot like a girl....lol :p

justkiddin of course! ;)

Mike Sigal is naturally right handed and shoots left handed.

Left eye dominate

I am right handed but shoot left handed. It probably has to do with me being naturaly right handed but my left eye is my dominate eye. I write, throw a baseball, darts, swing a bat, bowl and many other things right handed but shoot a gun, bow, and pool left handed.

It was kinda funny how I found this out. When I was a kid I got a bow for Christmas one year. When I went to get it sighted in and all set up I was aiming just like they told me to but was shooting off to the side everytime. But the thing was, my shots were all consistently in the same area. We spent about 45 minutes with them telling me that I was not listening to what they were telling me to do, and they were getting very frustrated with me, before a guy at the store told me to do this trick to see which is your dominate eye and low and behold, it was my left. Ten minutes later I had a left handed bow and was consistently putting them close to the bull. The best part had to be when I got to look at all the grown ups and say see, I told you I was doing what you told me to do. LOL

There are a few of us odd balls out there. It has worked out a few times betting against people that know I am right handed but make me agree to shoot with my left. LOL The thing that gets me is why I can't hardly even hold a cue right handed without making an a** out of myself. Been working at it, getting better, but have a longggggggggg way to go.

I am curious how many of you that are right handed but shoot left handed have a dominate left eye. Little test to see..... Look at something out in the distance about 30-50 yards away. Make a triangle with your hands, palms facing away from you, the base being your thumbs overlapping so it is about 2 inches across and your fingers crossing. Look at the object thru the triangle with outstretched arms. Slowly bring your hands back to your face while keeping the object in the middle. The triangle will go back to your dominate eye.

Please let me know, I'm curious.

I'm actually teaching someone how to play pool and he's naturally right handed. The thing is when he picks up a cue he plays left handed. Then when he uses the mechanical bridge he shoots with his right. The funniest thing about this is that when you see him use the bridge, he's taking a shot that a left hander can't make but it's a natural shot for a right hander. Weird if you ask me. I'm ambidexterous, but if I'm using the bridge for whatever reason, I can't use my off hand like he does... it boggles my mind.

I'm right-handed and shoot pool left-handed. I use the bridge with my right-hand though, and I do everything else right-handed. I have absolutely no coordination in my left hand except, apparently, when it comes to pool.

I say apparently because for the longest time I thought I was shooting right-handed, and then one day this guy says to me, "A lefty, eh?" And I said, "no, I'm right-handed," and he said "you're shooting left-handed." I'm not sure I even believed him at the time, it just didn't seem right. I always just thought that the coordination must all be in the bridge hand 'cause from the first day I started playing I just naturally used my right hand to make a bridge.

Actually, come to think of it, I think I'm right. I do shoot right-handed, and there's just an awful lot of confused right-handed players out there shooting pool left-handed.

I am the same way.

I throw with my right hand, shoot a pistol, shoot a bow, write, basically do everything with my right hand.

But i shoot a rifle with my left hand, and shoot pool with my left hand, and catch with my left hand.

when i use a bridge i use my right hand to stroke the cue. Most people think its weird because they think i am left handed.

That's what I tell people. :p When someone calls me a lefty, I tell them that I'm right handed and that I shoot right handed. Everyone else is doing it wrong. Kinda like I'm the only good driver on the road. ;)

Some of you guys have mentioned guns... I'm not a gun person but I do know that I would use my right hand for the trigger. Would I be shooting right handed or left handed?

I am right handed

But left eye dominant, yet I shoot as a rightey. I am seriously thinking of trying to switch to a left hand shooter. It makes more sense. I am glad i am not the only one out there. Has anyone out there tried to switch after many years of shooting as a right hander? I have shot over 40 years as a righty, now I am seriously thinking of switching...any thoughts?

I'm a lefty, and left eye dom, but I play golf righty which is actually a real good combo since the ball is under my left eye. At least thats what my coach said......

I hit both ways at baseball, play hockey lefty

wanna hear something really weird?...they made my brother switch from lefty to righty in school way back when, now he can write with both hands at the same time, and write two different things!:D....

I am right handed and left eye dominant. I play pool and shoot a bow or pistol right handed. I shoot rifles and shotguns left handed. I think however you are comfortable shooting pool is how you should play. I wouldn't suggest switching hands if you have already developed your game shooting one way.

Surprised no one has mentioned Cecil Tugwell yet. He was a righty, had an accident and broke his arm, learned to play as a lefty.

Mixed Up

I write, eat, play tennis, ping-pong, squash, raquetball, hit baseballs, hockey pucks, and golf balls left handed.

I throw righty, play guitar righty, kick football & play pool righty.

Mostly mixed-up really!

I play the same way. I'm right handed but shoot left handed. I taught myself how to play and I thought I was shooting right handed. It was a couple of years later that I found out I was shooting left. I also use my right hand when I'm using the bridge.

I do everything right-handed except pool. The person that taught me to play pool was left handed, so I guess I just copied him. I use the mech bridge right-handed though.

FWIW,

Jim

ok... i can totally understand learning and actually playing pool with your opposite hand... but what I don't understand is that if you regularly shoot pool with your left, why do some people switch to their right when they use the bridge? That's what makes me scratch my head the most.
